Dr Anna Pietzsch initially completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland before pursuing medicine at Griffith University. She undertook her anaesthetic training in South-East Queensland, primarily based at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Dr Pietzsch was awarded the Cecil Gray Prize for achieving the highest marks across Australia and New Zealand in her anaesthetic fellowship examinations. Her training has encompassed anaesthesia for paediatrics, head and neck surgery, obstetrics, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedics, urology, and general surgery.

Dr Pietzsch is a Staff Specialist at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where she serves as the Perioperative Anaesthetic Lead and is in charge of the Preoperative Anaesthetic Clinic. She is also the Anaesthetic Lead for Maxillofacial Surgery and holds the role of Pregnancy and Return-to-Work Officer.

She works across both the public and private health sectors, with appointments at Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital, Buderim Private Hospital, Nambour Selangor Private Hospital, Kawana Private Hospital, Buderim Gastroenterology, and Noosa Private Hospital.

Dr Pietzsch practises across many specialties including ENT, Orthopaedics, Maxillofacial Surgery, Gynaecology, and performs a significant volume of anaesthesia for Breast Cancer Surgery. She is an instructor for the national Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crisis (EMAC) course and a supervisor within the ANZCA Chapter of Perioperative Medicine.

Passionate about education, she teaches nurses, medical students, and anaesthetic trainees and is an invited speaker for ASA and ANZCA examination preparation courses. Dr Pietzsch is also a founding anaesthetist of the Coast to Coast Anaesthesia Conference, held annually in South-East Queensland. She has published research and contributed to national guidelines focusing on the wellbeing of pregnant anaesthetists and safe return-to-work practices.

Dr Pietzsch enjoys living on the Sunshine Coast and spending time with her family. Outside of work, she can often be found boogie boarding — always with goggles on.
