Dr Fiona Barron

Dr Fiona Barron completed her medical training in the UK, with additional experience in Calgary, Canada, before undertaking specialist training in anaesthesia in Edinburgh, Scotland. She further refined her expertise through a fellowship in obstetric anaesthesia at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. Since becoming a Specialist Anaesthetist in 2010 and relocating permanently to Australia in 2012, Dr Barron has developed broad and extensive experience across her field.

After working in the Northern Territory, Dr Barron settled on the Sunshine Coast with her family. She has a strong interest in high-quality obstetric anaesthesia and values the diversity of surgical work available locally, caring for both adults and children undergoing elective and emergency procedures. She is also committed to improving Indigenous health outcomes. 

Known for her calm and reassuring approach, Dr Barron focuses on helping patients feel comfortable and supported, aiming for the best possible recovery after surgery. 

Dr Barron practises in both public and private settings and serves as the lead Supervisor of Training for Anaesthesia Registrars within Sunshine Coast public hospitals. She is also actively involved in education, teaching on multidisciplinary courses covering areas such as obstetric emergencies and trauma management.

Outside of work, Dr Barron enjoys an active lifestyle. She spends time exploring the hinterland and has taken part in several local ocean swim events. She is currently working on perfecting homemade pasta and has recently rekindled her passion for ballet. Family holidays often include skiing, hiking, and enjoying board games together.
