Dr Godsall completed dual degrees in Chemical Engineering and Science (Mathematics) before graduating in Medicine from the University of Queensland. He holds a Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, a Master of Clinical Trials Research from the University of Sydney, and a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound from the University of Melbourne. This path from engineering through medicine to anaesthesia has helped shape his approach to clinical practice and patient safety.

Dr Godsall trained at hospitals across Australia including John Hunter Hospital (Newcastle), Royal Perth Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital (Sydney), and Royal Darwin Hospital. During the nearly four years Dr Godsall worked in Darwin, he had the privilege of undertaking Remote and Aeromedical Retrieval work across the Northern Territory, providing care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. These years gave him a strong foundation in managing critically unwell patients in challenging and resource-limited environments.

He completed Fellowships at the Austin Hospital and Mercy Hospital for Women in Melbourne, where he continued to work as a consultant anaesthetist before relocating to the Sunshine Coast in 2011. Dr Godsall is a member of Sunshine Coast Anaesthetic Group and a senior staff anaesthetist at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, with over 15 years as a Specialist Anaesthetist.

With a broad clinical interest across all areas of anaesthesia, Dr Godsall has a particular focus on quality improvement, patient safety, crisis management, and obstetric and ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia. He served as the department's lead in various roles including Obstetric Anaesthesia, Equipment, Research, and Chair of the Massive Transfusion Working Group, and was a co-opted member of the ANZCA Obstetric Special Interest Group.

Dr Godsall has been the local principal investigator for multiple ANZCA and NHMRC funded multi-centre clinical trials, has led a number of local research / quality initiatives, and established a Statewide Anaesthetic Registry. He has also been involved in the education and training of anaesthesia registrars, including convening an anaesthetic viva short course.

Away from work, Dr Godsall enjoys family life and all that the Sunshine Coast has to offer and is an active member of both the Mooloolaba Outrigger Canoe Club and the Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club. He is always happy to answer any questions patients might have ahead of their procedure.
