Before Your Procedure

A few key things that help your anaesthetist care for you safely

Fasting

No solid food for 6 hours prior to surgery
Clear fluids (in moderation) up to 2 hours prior
Clear fluids include water, juice (no pulp), cordial, black tea/coffee (no milk)
Breastfeeding infants under 12 months can feed up to 2 hours prior to admission (not formula)

Medication

Continue heart, blood pressure, asthma, or antacid medication (with a sip of water)
Blood thinners must be discussed with your surgeon/anaesthetist well before surgery
Bring your medications or a full list with doses
